On behalf of the Executive Committee
6th March, 2020.
Introduction
The safety and well-being of our students, staff, and visitors to all SPES premises is very mportant to us. SPES is monitoring advice provided by the Irish authorities - Department of Health, Department of Foreign Affairs and the HSE - regarding Coronavirus/COVID-19. We are adopting a policy of high-compliance, i.e. SPES will follow the advice as a minimum standard and seek to adopt further measures to minimise the risks where it is appropriate to do so.
General Instructions.
In order to minimise the risk of the spread of Coronavirus within the course of SPES meetings, events and training, you as a student are asked to do the following:
- Travel. If you or a member of your household is returning from any of the areas identified as high-risk by the HSE or the Department of foreign affairs namely as of today; China, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, Iran, Japan, the following regions in Italy - Lombardy, Veneto, Emilia-Romagna or Piedmont, within the time-frames identified in the advice, whether or not symptoms are evident, we request that you do not attend any SPES meetings, committees and working groups, events or training sessions.
- Notification. Please notify a tutor or the SPES office immediately if you believe that a risk of transmission of the virus has arisen for any reason within SPES events or on SPES premises.
- Hygiene. When attending SPES events, please observe the personal hygiene recommendations as published by the HSE and the WHO. Refer to www.hse.ie and www.who.int . In particular the hygiene requirements emphasised by all medical authorities as being particularly important include:
- Meticulous hand washing.
- Covering coughs and sneezes in the correct manner to avoid spread of infected water-droplets.
- Safe disposal of used tissues and cleaning of infected surfaces.
Go to https://www2.hse.ie/conditions/coronavirus/coronavirus.html for up-to-date advice, description of symptoms, etc..
Cancellations
SPES reserves the right to cancel any event at short notice if it is found necessary or prudent in order to avoid risk of transmission of the disease. We will endeavour to put in place alternative arrangements for meetings where it is possible to do so. In cases of paid-for events or training, please notify us in advance of non-attendance due to coronavirus concerns so that we can deal with your case in a timely manner.
SPES will endeavour to keep all members and students up to date on our policies in a timely manner, but as the situation may evolve rapidly you are asked to follow official public health guidelines at all times.
Thank you for your co-operation.
