The Republic discusses justice, the order and character of the just city-state, and the just man. It is Plato's best-known and most influential work of philosophy and political theory.
Plato, speaking through his teacher Socrates, sets out to answer two questions:
• What is justice?
• Why should we be just?
And if we want just individuals and a just state how do we bring that about.
The final book of the Republic famously includes an account of the afterlife using a myth. The return of a soldier to life to tell what he witnessed in great detail.
Join us in this inquiry into one of the big questions that is as relevant to our time as it was when this dialogue took place.
