Townley Hall Update – Mark Skelton

Townley Hall Update

Townley Hall is a very quiet place these days with School and third-party activities on hold. Nonetheless the house and grounds continue to be overseen and diligently cared for by Valerie, Fidelma and Christy.

During this period, we have moved forward with a number of essential maintenance and renovation works. Whilst Covid protocols have interrupted work schedules there has been excellent progress made, all under the enthusiastic and watchful eye of Dermot.

New Basement Shower Room:

The old basement boot room has been converted into a dedicated shower room and is almost complete.

Windows:

A maintenance and repair program is up and running, with the south facing windows prioritised and now complete.

Electrical Upgrades:

A much-needed program of electrical upgrade has been instigated, and work is close to completion.

Funds have been allocated from the budget by the Townley Hall team to progress the following initiatives as soon as possible:

Grounds Machinery & Equipment:

Much needed equipment will be sourced and purchased (second hand) to enable more efficient and effective grounds work take place. There are many grounds projects that we can implement under Christy’s direction, as opposed to using third party contractors or hiring equipment.

Drainage on the Northside of the House:

Heavy rains have exposed weaknesses in the drainage systems leading to rising damp and some localised flooding in the basement. Resolution will involve excavation along the northside of the house. As soon as is possible these works will commence.

There are many other initiatives currently under assessment by the Townley Hall team. We look forward to sharing news on these in due course. In the meantime, we look forward to the day (hopefully later this year) when we can welcome everyone back. The house misses you all!
