Sanskrit Easter

Sanskrit Easter Programme

This year’s Sanskrit event being organised by the Irish School, is taking place again over the Easter Weekend, from Friday 15th to Monday 18th of April.

We will be studying the second chapter of Taittirīya Upaniṣad, combined with Chanting, Grammar and Sanskrit Conversation classes. The theme of the week is Bliss. We are fortunate to have Puṣkarācārya join our team, to take the Upaniṣad classes. He is 30 years old and has a PhD in Advaita Vedānta. An indication of his capability was that he was selected by the Gurukula to present a Vedānta paper to the Śaṅkarācārya of the South India a few years ago.

Our timetable will be similar to last year’s, beginning at 7.00am local time and ending at 1.00pm. This is a timeframe designed to allow for our friends in Australia to attend in daytime hours and have some time with family over the Easter Weekend.

This online event is open to current members of Philosophy groups in the School who have at least a basic knowledge of the Sanskrit alphabet and vocabulary.

Each day will have the following elements:

  • Sanskrit chanting to start the day
  • Study of the Taittirīya Upaniṣad Chapter 2
  • Sanskrit grammar – two groups: introductory and more advanced
  • Sanskrit conversation – also introductory and more advanced.

The main theme for this satsaṅga will be Taittirīya Upaniṣad Ch. 2 - called Brahmānandavallī or the bliss of the Brahman - which we will chant, study, discuss and reflect on. The day will begin with Vedic chanting which will be conducted by Prasanna Āchārya and followed by study sessions with Puṣkara Ācārya and Tilaka Āchārya, all of whom have been steeped in Sanskrit and Vedāntic learning from an early age.

Full notes will be provided on the text and there will be plenty of assistance to guide the study even if you only know a little Sanskrit.
